Summer Dogs

Best reasons for taking your dog to the beach

If you are lucky enough to live near a beach, I am sure that is your number one place you take your dog for a run. The beach has so many proven benefits for them.

Summer dogs - dogs at beach

Exercise- Large area to run around, in the sand and shallow water. If your dog loves to swim. Swimming is fantastic for older dogs as they are getting full range movement with their joints but without it being to weight bearing on their joints.

Socialising- Keeping your dog social is such an important aspect for a dog, it helps keep them calm and a more well behaved dog.

Leash-off – If you are at a leash-off beach it is good to learn and know you can trust your dog while they are off lead and they will return to you when you call.

Mixing up the routine- By changing your dogs normal routine it gives them a chance to investigate new surrounding and smells.

Lastly, keeping them cool! – your dog can run, swim and play all in one convenient location.

We do however need to remember that there are still good times and bad times to go to the beach. In most locations, beach rules change depending on different seasons and times of day. Most of these rules are benefiting the health of your dog. We should never take our dog to the beach in the middle of the day, as on a 30°C day the sand can get up to 52°C. This is going to put your dog at risk of burning its dog paws or getting heat stroke. We should only be taking our dog to the beach around sunrise and sunset.
